TuksTennis hosts Rainbow Kidz Tournament
TuksTennis, located at the University of Pretoria Hillcrest Sports Campus, is a premier tennis training centre that not only provides a performance program for student-athletes but also hosts Junior Development Programs that teach fundamental tennis skills in a fun, welcoming, safe, and positive environment. This was recently displayed when they hosted the Rainbow-Kidz Tennis Tournament.
With just under 50 entries for the day, one of the key features of this tournament is to introduce young children to competition and fun in a non-intimidating environment. Emphasis is placed on participation and skill development. The Rainbow-Kidz Tournament is part of TuksTennis’ broader mission to create a pathway that fosters excellence through focused training programs, which help develop mental strength, a competitive spirit, and resilience. These attributes are also evident among the UP TuksTennis teams and members, including tennis legends like Kgothatso Montjane, a four-time Grand Slam winner at the world-renowned Roland Garros. Besides the Rainbow-Kidz Tournament.
Besides the performance program and Rainbow-Kidz Tournament, TuksTennis is making a difference in the community of Mamelodi at Zaminthuthuko Primary through its outreach program, providing tennis opportunities and skills development to underprivileged youth. The program aims to empower young people through sport, promoting values like teamwork, discipline, and perseverance.
Tennis is an excellent sport for developing a range of skills that can benefit individuals in many areas of life, including one’s journey as a student or a career professional. Some of the key development and personal growth skills that tennis can foster are: Discipline and Time Management, Physical Fitness and Endurance, Mental Toughness and Resilience, Strategic Thinking and Problem Solving, Goal Setting and Motivation.
“TuksTennis is more than just a sport,” says Coach Prince. He continues by saying, “ That between these lines, greatness is not just achieved, it is cultivated. Every serve, every volley, every match is a step towards excellence that embodies the StripeGeneration. We provide more than just a court. We provide a catalyst for growth and are witnesses to power, perseverance, and dedication.”
