The Telkom VS Gaming eDiski tournament officially kicked off on Friday at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), with the High School eSports League opening the three-day national competition and showcasing the next generation of South African gaming talent.
Sixteen-year-old Ridhaa April from the School of IT Think Digital Academy emerged as the champion of the High School eSports League after competing against some of the country’s top school-level eDiski players.

The High School eSports League forms an important part of the Telkom VS Gaming platform, which continues to create opportunities for young players to develop their skills, gain national exposure, and transition into higher levels of competitive gaming.
Speaking after his victory, April praised the high standard of competition and highlighted the rapid growth of school-level eSports in South Africa.
“I would like to first say well done to all the participants today. I saw some very impressive players throughout the competition, which clearly shows how competitive eSports has become, even at school level,” he said.
April, who recently turned 16, credited his success to consistent preparation and discipline, emphasising the importance of continuous improvement in competitive gaming environments.

“I have been practising a lot in preparation for this tournament. With gaming, you have to keep improving because there is always a new and better way of competing. I know I did well today, but there is still a lot of work to be done to reach the high level that has been set by some of the best gamers which I am looking forward to testing myself against over this weekend,” he added.
His performance reflects the growing depth of young eSports talent emerging across South Africa, as structured competitions like the Telkom VS Gaming High School eSports League continue to strengthen the development pathway for aspiring players.
The Telkom VS Gaming tournament continues throughout the weekend at the CTICC, where the country’s top eDiski competitors – including newly crowned High School eSports League champion Ridhaa April, will battle for the grand prize in South Africa’s premier competitive gaming showcase.
