The South African Football Association held a very successful Ordinary Congress in Sandton this past weekend
Delegates from around the country descended on the venue in Johannesburg to attend an event that was also graced by representatives from, among others, FIFA, SASCOC and COSAFA.
SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan was happy with the outcomes of the Congress, especially the turnaround strategy presented by SAFA Finance Committee chairman Mxolisi Sibam and CFO Gronie Hluyo.
“The meeting dealt with various issues, first, of course, was the financial statement, which was approved unanimously by all of our Members. Secondly, the turnaround strategy as presented by Mxolisi Sibam and the CFO, the Members accepted that there is a new path that SAFA wants to follow. There were other reports from the various Committees that were also given,” the SAFA President said.

“Of course, the Members raised a lot of questions and in the end, when we closed the meeting and I think that the progress of South African football will continue, and we will have to work harder to ensure that more resources are available. You know, the issue for SAFA is that we have 10 national teams.
“But only two of those national teams are sponsored teams – Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana. Our youth teams, the Under-17 girls and Under-17 boys, the Under-20 boys and Under-20 girls, and our two school teams, the Under-15 boys and Under-15 girls have achieved continental success in spite of the fact that we don’t have sponsorship. But we ensured that our teams play and participate at the highest level.
“And now, FIFA has made a proposal that they want to introduce at international level, the under-15 for boys and girls. So very soon, we’ll see FIFA providing opportunities for Under-15 boys and girls at international level.”
The SAFA President also praised Mamelodi Sundowns after their participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States of America. Sundowns represented Africa alongside Egypt’s Al Ahly, Morocco’s Wydad and Tunisia’s Esperance.
“We celebrate the fact that Mamelodi Sundowns have not just collected four points, but they impressed the world. If you look at the response from people, both from South Africa and the globe, they praised the kind of football that Sundowns produced, the players and the quality of the team.”
