The stripe is heading global. And, in less than 24hours. TuksSport will confirm a powerhouse contingent of University of Pretoria student-athletes selected to represent the university and South Africa at the upcoming USSA and Commonwealth Games. The send-off will mark another chapter in TuksSport’s rise as the country’s premier high-performance program.

These athletes arrive at the start line, at the starting block at 5am sessions, through academic deadlines, injuries, comebacks, life challenges. These athletes are the youth and they are students first, and Champions always. From the Campus to the World Stage

Tuks Athletes have long been the heartbeat of South African university sport. From Olympic podiums to national records, UP continues to produce performers who compete with integrity and humility. This year’s cohort spans 6 sporting codes, namely, 3 x 3 Basketball, Hockey, Indoor Volleyball, Rugby 15’s, Netball and Squash and includes reigning national champions, record holders and first-time call-ups.

“This isn’t just a selection. It’s a validation of the culture which we have built at TuksSport where academic excellence and athletic excellence aren’t compromises, they are expectations. Our athletes are proof that you chase degrees and dreams at the same time. As they head to USSA and Commonwealth Games. they carry the pride of Tuks, the hope of their families, and the future of South African sport,” said Steven Ball, Director of TuksSport and CEO HPC.

“Representing UP at this level is the reason why I chose Tuks. The coaches, management team and lecturers who push us harder and harder every day have all played a part in getting us to where we are. Now is the time to apply the lessons we’ve learnt from them and show the world what Tuks Athletes are really made of. It’s time to rise to the occasion and show that the stripe generation functions above the line” said Luca Keun, Vice Captain, TuksNetball.

Elevating the Athlete, Backed by Results

Looking back at TuksSport, it is evident that TuksSport’s approach goes beyond facilities – it’s about an investment, about elevating the athlete as a whole. It is about personalised strength and conditioning, sport psychology, nutrition and a balanced lifestyle. And this balance means that our student-athletes train like professionals while earning degrees that last a lifetime. In the last 12 months alone, TuksSport Athletes have represented the stripe on various global platforms, claimed national titles and broken records. Some outstanding results; TuksRugby won the coveted Intervarsity title, Johann and Lyndi Roelofse both medalled at the Sappi TuksRace, Pieter Coetze completed a “golden hat trick” at the South African Championships by winning the 100m freestyle, TuksCricket won the Titans Club T20 Tournament and are also the Titans Premier League Winners, Colette Van Rensburg (nee Uys) set the SA hammer throw record by throwing a distance of 69.21m, Timothy Meuwsen claimed the African Judo Crown in Nairobi.
