A record field of 5000 runners lined up for the 3rd annual Boxer Super Run at Snell Parade, near Blue Lagoon Park in Durban, on Sunday, 12 October 2025. Ryan Mphahlele and Glenrose Xaba thrilled spectators with electrifying performances, capturing victory in the MEN’S and WOMEN’S ELITE WAVES respectively in well-deserved times of 13:37 and 15:27. Ryan Mphahlele celebrated his Boxer Super Run debut by becoming the fastest South African on African soil, while setting a new course record at the Boxer Super Run Durban.
“The last time that I ran a 5km was 2 years ago,” says Mphahlele. “The opportunity came, especially in Durban, it’s a coastal area, so I thought let me come and top it. It was like a fitness run to me, to see where my fitness is at this time of the year. I’ve got a couple of races that are premeditated. It was good to see where I am at.”
“Elroy was my toughest competition and of course Kabelo Mulaudzi really showed up,” continues Mphahlele. “When I looked back, I saw that Kabelo was moving closer, so I just had to take the sting out of him. It was my goal to win today, and it feels very good to cross the finish line first. I love Durban, I love the weather, and I’ll be back next year.” Kabelo Mulaudzi came in second, while Elroy Gelant finished third. The Elite WOMEN’S WAVE delivered its own share of fireworks with Glenrose Xaba, Karabo More and Tayla Kavanagh pulling out all the stops.
“Today’s race was good. The pace was too fast,” says a very happy Xaba. “I recovered very well after two long runs that I did in preparation for my Valencia Marathon. I am very happy about the win, and with the competition from Karabo More and Tayla Kavanagh. Well done to them. It was a good race. I went with the strategy of my coach, just sit behind, but when you take the move take it and don’t think about your training partner (referring to More), she will follow. It feels good to be back and to be on the podium. There’s a lot that I enjoy about the Boxer Super Run.
The support and atmosphere are great, and we can network with the fans and supporters. It’s my second home here, so it is nice to run at home again.” Karabo More came in second, while Tayla Kavanagh finished third.
Launched in 2023 through a partnership between Stillwater Sports, Boxer Superstores and Coca-Cola, the Boxer Super Run is a world-class 5km road run that attracts everyone from elite athletes to first-time runners. While the ELITE WAVES were by invitation only, the OPEN and SUPER SOCIAL WAVES welcomed all who share the event’s spirited energy and personal race-day goals.

PRIZE PURSE: The Boxer Super Run Durban boasted an impressive R147 200 prize purse in 2025. This prize purse was shared across both the ELITE WAVES and the OPEN WAVE. In the ELITE WAVES, the top eight men and women earned prize money, with the winners each claiming a well-deserved R20 000. In the OPEN WAVE, the top three men and women in the Junior, Open, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+ categories were also recognised and rewarded for their performances.
