Gauteng MEC for Human Settlements, Tasneem Motara, together with the City of Tshwane, handed over 150 title deeds and 17 houses to beneficiaries in the north of Pretoria as part of ongoing efforts to restore dignity and provide secure tenure to communities.
Motara, who was accompanied by MMC for Human Settlements in Tshwane Aaron Maluleka, were speaking during the handover event of 150 title deeds and 17 houses in the north of Pretoria. The title deeds were awarded to residents of New Eesterus while the housing allocations were for residents of Soshanguve.

Tasneem Motara has urged communities not to place councillor under immense pressure when requiring services.
“Between the municipality, provincial government, and national government, we always put councillors in a difficult position. The municipalities and the provincial government are working around the clock to process many title deeds so that communities can stop being angry at councillors about title deeds,” said Motara.

MMC Maluleka said that it was vital for all spheres of government to work together in offering services as people saw one government.
“Many of you moved here many years ago when the stand was sold for R15. It was a programme that was for the people, where no stand was sold for R60 000. Government came and formalised the area.
MMC Maluleka also urged MEC Motara to include New Eesterus in the Department’s development plan for in-situ development as the residents already have water, title deeds, and roads but some could not afford to build for themselves.
