There will be more than unbeaten records on the line when Golden Gloves heavyweights JJ Alberts and Jose Kadima box on the undercard of “One Way to Redemption” in separate bouts on May 16.

The pair will also have an opportunity to gatecrash a planned all-Africa heavyweight Super Four tournament planned for the end of the year. The brainchild of promoter Rodney Berman, the Super Four would comprise heavyweight fighters from South Africa, the DRC, Uganda and Nigeria.

Berman is motivated by both the public’s appetite for top-line heavyweight boxing and broadcast partner Canal+’s growing influence across Pan-Africa following its purchase of MultiChoice, of which SuperSport was a subsidiary.

Alberts and Kadima, of course, look ready-made for such an event. Alberts is already arguably the country’s premier heavyweight while Kadima, of DRC, is based in SA and is rapidly developing a reputation.

On May 16, Alberts faces a tricky obstacle in Akani Phuzi while Kadima must overcome the wiles of experienced Johnny Muller.

For Alberts and Kadima, the Emperors Palace outing is more than a showcase – it’s a high-stakes audition. While Phuzi and Muller represent immediate, dangerous hurdles, the glittering prize of the Super Four looms large in the background.

In the unforgiving world of heavyweight boxing, a single slip-up could derail a career-defining opportunity. But for those who emerge victorious, the path leads directly toward continental glory and a seat at the table of Africa’s premier big-man tournament.

Tearaway fighter Johnny Muller, seen here against Akani Phuzi, went 2-1 against his local rival. But now he steps up against Jose Kadima, a bigger man with a harder punch, on the May 16 fight card at Emperors Palace.
