The spirit of youth football shone brightly this past weekend as schools from across the province gathered for the Sanlam Kay Motsepe Schools Cup Gauteng Finals, hosted in Pretoria. The tournament, one of South Africa’s premier school football competitions, delivered nail-biting matches, remarkable talent, and moments that will be remembered for years to come.
In the U19 Boys division, Clapham High School triumphed to secure the provincial crown after a hard-fought campaign. Their resilience and skill saw them overcome strong competition, including a determined Fumana Secondary School, who finished as worthy runners-up.

The U13 Girls final was equally thrilling, with Donaldson Primary School clinching the title after showing both flair and grit throughout the tournament. Basa Primary School also impressed, winning one of the most exciting fixtures of the finals with a 3-2 victory earlier in the day.

Speaking after the finals, tournament representatives praised the standard of football and highlighted the importance of the Kay Motsepe Schools Cup as a platform for unearthing the next generation of South African stars. “These finals prove again that school sport is the heartbeat of our communities. Sanlam’s continued support ensures that learners not only showcase their talent but also grow through the values of teamwork, discipline, and determination,” said a Gauteng Schools Football Association spokesperson.
The winners from Gauteng will now look ahead to the national finals, where they will compete against the best from other provinces for ultimate glory in the Kay Motsepe Schools Cup.
