Despite a challenging start and an early setback, confidence remains high within the Bafana Bafana camp following their determined performance in their latest international fixture, with former national team defender Edward “Magents” Motale and current player Thapelo Morena praising the team’s resilience and fighting spirit.

Motale commended the players for their response after conceding an early goal, saying the setback could have easily disrupted the team’s structure and confidence. Instead, he believes the squad demonstrated maturity and discipline by maintaining their shape and continuing to execute their game plan.

“Bafana Bafana were perhaps a little casual in the opening minutes, and conceding so early forced them to chase the game,” said Motale. “What impressed me most was that the players never lost focus. They stayed organized, kept their positions well, and finished the first half strongly. It looked like an equaliser was only a matter of time.”

The former Bafana Bafana star also applauded head coach Hugo Broos for making decisive tactical adjustments in the second half, particularly the introduction of playmaker Relebohile Mofokeng.

“Those substitutions changed the rhythm of the game. Mofokeng brought creativity and complemented Maseko perfectly. We needed a playmaker, and his impact was clear for everyone to see,” Motale noted.

Looking ahead, Motale expressed confidence that South Africa can secure victory against Korea and progress to the next stage of the competition.

“I believe we have the quality to beat Korea and collect all three points. We must continue believing in our players, especially the young talent that has shown tremendous potential throughout this tournament.”

He further emphasised the importance of team chemistry, highlighting the strong understanding among players who regularly play together at club level.

“There is already a beautiful combination among these players. Their familiarity and understanding of each other’s movements can be a major advantage for the national team,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana defender Thapelo Morena described the team’s latest performance as a significant improvement compared to their previous outing against Mexico.

According to Morena, the early goal forced the team to adapt its tactical approach, but the players responded admirably under pressure.

“To be honest, today’s performance was much better than the game against Mexico,” said Morena. “Conceding early changes your plans and forces adjustments, but the way the players responded showed tremendous character.”

The defender praised his teammates for their commitment and determination throughout the match, insisting that the effort displayed on the field provides a strong foundation going forward.

“The players left everything on the pitch. They fought for every ball, showed passion, and never stopped believing. That is the kind of spirit that can take us far in this competition.”

Morena acknowledged football’s unpredictable nature but expressed confidence that the same level of commitment and hard work could produce a positive result in the team’s next match.

“Football can be unpredictable, but if we continue showing the same dedication, passion, and fighting spirit, I believe good things will happen. I trust this group of players completely.”

As Bafana Bafana prepare for their decisive encounter against Korea, the message from both past and present representatives of South African football is clear: belief, unity, and determination remain at the heart of the team’s ambitions to advance to the next round.
