Orlando Pirates Football Club is proud to bring you the Player of the Month.
With the first month of the Premier League season now in the books, voting is open for August’s Player of the Month.
The month of August has been drama-filled month with Pirates playing eight competitive matches in the process winning four, losing two and drawing twice. During this period Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men have climbed up to fifth place in the Betway Premiership as well as reach the final of the MTN8 for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year.
A number of players have put up their hands in the pursuit of the first Player of the Month gong of the season. Here are the nominees:
Sipho Chaine
The last man of defence came to his sides’ aid in the most epic fashion during the club’s titanic battle with rivals Mamelodi Sundowns – pulling off two saves in the penalty shootout but not only that; but during the two legs of the MTN8, Sipho was instrumental in keeping the score to a single goal. In the eight games played this past month, Sipho has gone on to keep four clean sheets.
Mbekezeli Mbokazi
Very few players have burst into the scene and make an impact the way Mbokazi has for Orlando Pirates. The 19-year-old has been a mainstay in the Pirates defence since making his debut and it doesn’t look like he is ready to relinquish his position any time soon. Not only that but the injury to Nkosinathi Sibisi has also seen TLB as he is affectionately known, go on to captain the side.
Lebone Seema
With so many high-profile signings the club made at the beginning of the season, the Bucs fans could be forgiven for not knowing anything about Seema however, as of today, very few supporters of the black and white of Orlando Pirates can say that they do not know the 24-year-old especially after he announced his arrival with a rocket of a shot in Pirates’ 1-0 victory against Orbit College.
Patrick Maswanganyi
Fan favourite, Patrick Maswanganyi has bounced back from criticism that he has faced at the beginning of the season to remind people of the quality that he possesses. In the seven appearances in August, Tito has scored three goals .
Kamogelo Sebelebele
After announcing the signing of Sebelebele following the departure of one of the fan favourites Mohau Nkota, some would find the pressure of convincing the Ghost very daunting but not for Mike. The former TS Galaxy man grabbed the challenge and ran with it – literally! Marking his arrival to the Buccaneers with a clutch equaliser against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 in front of a packed Orlando Stadium. A week later, he repeated this with yet another equaliser against Bafana ba Style. In seven appearances – Mike has scored three goals in August.
Oswin Appollis
Hopes were high that Appollis would make an immediate impact at the club following his high profile move from Polokwane City at the beginning of the season, and he didn’t disappoint – ending the month of August the way he started it with a Man of the Match performance against Polokwane City and most recently, in Pirates’ 3-0 win against Chippa United.
