New goalkeeper coach and analysts join Pitso Mosimane’s technical staff as South Africa prepares for 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign
Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has strengthened his technical team ahead of South Africa’s opening 2027 CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday.
As preparations intensify for the upcoming international assignments, Marcus Mashilo has joined the national team camp as goalkeeper coach, while Tshepo Mahao takes on the role of assistant analyst and Goolam Valodia serves as opposition analyst.
The appointments complete Mosimane’s technical team as Bafana Bafana prepares for a demanding three-match international camp, beginning with the crucial AFCON qualifier against Guinea.
“The technical team is complete now. We have got Marcus Mashilo to help us as the goalkeeper coach. Marcus is very experienced and he worked with me at Mamelodi Sundowns. He also worked with coach Manqoba Mngqithi and coach Rhulani Mokwena,” Mosimane said.
The South African senior men’s national team assembled in Johannesburg on Sunday night, with players arriving from their respective clubs across the country and abroad.
Samukele Kabini joined the camp on Monday morning after travelling overnight from Norway, while Puso Dithejane arrived from Chicago, United States, shortly before dinner on Monday evening. Relebohile Mofokeng, Ime Okon, Olwethu Makhanya, Shandre Campbell, Thapelo Maseko and Sphephelo Sithole were expected to arrive later that night.
Mosimane also confirmed that Lebohang Maboe was dealing with a minor injury and did not train with the rest of the squad on Monday. The midfielder will be monitored by the medical team in the days ahead.
Bafana Bafana’s Upcoming International Assignments
South Africa will begin its 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign against Guinea at Johannesburg’s Orlando Stadium on Saturday, before travelling to Egypt for its next fixtures.
The team will face Eritrea at Cairo’s Al-Salam Stadium on Wednesday, 30 September 2026, in its second group match. Bafana Bafana will then conclude its international commitments with a friendly against Egypt at Cairo International Stadium on 4 October 2026.
With the technical team now complete, Mosimane and his squad will focus on building momentum and preparing for the challenges of the upcoming qualifying campaign.
