The visit formed part of the Committee’s constitutional mandate to monitor the implementation of social development programmes and ensure that vulnerable members of society receive adequate care and support.

Following the inspection, the Committee noted several positive aspects, including the dedication of staff, the cleanliness of communal spaces, and the generally positive feedback from residents. However, concerns were raised regarding the need for upgraded medical equipment, enhanced recreational activities, and minor infrastructure repairs.

The Committee has recommended and Increased funding to improve facilities to acquire necessary medical resources. Ongoing professional development for caregivers and nursing staff. Expanded social and recreational programmes to enhance residents’ quality of life

Committee Chairperson Honourable Dr Tlou Chokoe commended the dedication of the staff but emphasised that “it is our duty to ensure that our elderly citizens live with dignity, security and access to the care they deserve. The issues identified today will be addressed through engagement with the relevant stakeholders and we will return to monitor progress.”
