Returning to the vibrant city of Durban on Sunday, 12 October 2025, the Boxer Super Run – South Africa’s most social 5km run – will feature an impressive R147 200 prize purse. Leading the stakes, the winners of the Elite Men’s and Elite Women’s Races will each walk away with a remarkable R20 000.
“The Boxer Super Run is an exciting challenge for elite athletes,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “With the guaranteed prize purse on the line, runners will be motivated to give nothing less than their best on race day. The Elite Race promises to be a must-see spectator highlight, and we can’t wait to witness world-class racing at its finest in Durban.”

This prize purse will be shared across both the Elite Race and the Open Wave. In the Elite Race, the top eight men and women will earn prize money, with the winners each claiming a well-deserved R20 000. In 2024 Boxer Athletics Club’s top runners, Precious Mashele and Karabo More, secured gold in the elite men’s and women’s races respectively with Mashele once again becoming the fastest South African (at that time) to complete a 5km run on home soil with a lightning-fast time of 13:39. More completed the 5km in a deserving time of 16:16.
“The Boxer Super Run prize purse is truly impressive for a short-distance road event,” says More. “It reflects a serious commitment to supporting and rewarding athletes, which is something we really need in South African running. Offering substantial rewards to the top 8 finishers shows that the organisers value not only the winners but also the depth of competition. For me, winning the R20 000 in 2024 was not just a financial boost but also a huge validation of all the hard work and sacrifices I’ve put into my training. It made the victory feel even more tangible and rewarding. On race day, that prize felt like recognition not just for crossing the line first but for the countless hours spent preparing behind the scenes.”
In closing More adds, “This level of prize purse helps to spotlight short-distance road running, which sometimes doesn’t get as much attention as longer distances. This kind of prize money can inspire younger athletes to specialise in these events and push the sport forward in South Africa.”
