The Port of Gauteng today hosted a landmark Media Briefing and Site Visit, unveiling its transformative vision to become the heartbeat of South Africa’s inland logistics network. This milestone event brought together government leaders however government officials they didn’t pitch up, industry stakeholders, investors, and media representatives to witness firsthand the progress and potential of one of the country’s most ambitious infrastructure developments.

Positioned as a strategic logistics hub within South Africa’s economic powerhouse province, the Port of Gauteng is set to revolutionise the movement of goods between coastal ports and inland markets. The development forms a critical link in South Africa’s freight corridor strategy, integrating rail, road, and warehousing infrastructure to streamline supply chains, enhance trade efficiency, and attract industrial investment.

Speaking at the event, Francois Nortje emphasised the importance of the project in driving sustainable economic growth:

“The Port of Gauteng is more than an infrastructure project—it is a symbol of innovation, collaboration, and progress. We are building a gateway that will empower industries, create jobs, and position Gauteng as a leader in logistics excellence.”

During the site visit, attendees toured key construction zones and operational areas, gaining insight into the state-of-the-art facilities, green design principles, and digital integration underpinning the development. With sustainability and inclusivity at its core, the Port of Gauteng aims to create lasting social and economic value, while supporting South Africa’s just transition and growth agenda.

The project aligns with national objectives to modernise transport infrastructure, enhance freight mobility, and boost competitiveness within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) framework.
