Germiston – The MMC for Roads and Transport Management, Cllr Lindiwe Mnguni, has strongly
condemned the brutal shooting incident which claimed five lives on Wednesday, 17 June, at the
Holfontein off-ramp towards Etwatwa along the N12.
Cllr Mnguni extended the city’s heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues and loved ones of
the five Benoni Taxi Association patrollers, as well as the scholar transport driver and e-hailing
driver, who tragically lost their lives during the shooting.
“The City of Ekurhuleni strongly condemns such incidents of violence and rather support initiatives
led by the Gauteng MEC to promote dialogue, cooperation and peace among taxi associations.
Incidents of this nature threaten these efforts and place the lives of innocent people at risk.
“This senseless act of violence undermines ongoing efforts to build a safe, peaceful and stable public
transport environment in Ekurhuleni. Violence has no place in our communities or in the transport
industry,” said Cllr Mnguni.
The city calls on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and ensure that those responsible are
brought to justice. Members of the public with any information relating to the shooting are also
encouraged to come forward so that those behind this senseless crime can be brought to book,
appealed Cllr Mnguni.
