Mamelodi Sundowns are vying for major accolades in the Premier Soccer League following the stellar performances they displayed in the 2024/25 campaign. The PSL announced a list of nominees for this season’s awards on Tuesday afternoon and among the nominees are nine Downs stars.
Coach Miguel Cardoso, Ronwen Williams, Grant Kekana, Teboho Mokoena, Marcelo Allende, Iqraam Rayners, Malibongwe Khoza, Gomolemo Kekana of the Diski Teamand Lucas Ribeiro are the nine that made it on the top PSL list and stand a chance to scoop top accolades at the awards ceremony.
While the Club shone best in the Betway Premiership awards, Iqraam Rayners and Gomolemo Kekana ensured that the Club makes an appearance in other competitions by receiving nominations in the Carling Knockout and the DStv Diski Challenge respectively.
Lucas Ribeiro, on the other hand, leads the Downs bunch with the most nominations, scooping three which include Footballer of the Season, having already scooped the Golden Boot after netting 16 goals in the league.
Coach Miguel, who is the favourite for the Betway Premiership Coach of the Season, has had a spectacular seven months in his debut season in the PSL. He scooped three Coach of the Month accolades this season. The tactician expressed his joy, lauded and gave credence to his side for the nominations.
“The nomination is a reflection of our work and the level of determination we showed throughout the season from both the coaching staff and players. I am happy for all these players for being recognised for their great work,” he said.
“I’m very thankful for the opportunities that allowed me to show the capacity to lead a time like ours. From that, we have obtained results that have also led to me being recognised not only in the PSL, but also in my birth country. Credit needs to be given to the rest of the coaching staff because I didn’t do this alone.”
The Awards are set to take place on Tuesday, the 29th of July 2025 at 19H00, live on SuperSport TV.
