Digital advertising has spent years perfecting delivery. African-born adtech company Naritive believes it is time to focus on whether anybody is paying attention.

It has introduced the next evolution of its Naritive Attention Intelligence Platform, expanding an established technology ecosystem that has already helped brands turn passive impressions into measurable engagement.

The evolved platform brings Naritive’s proprietary ad technology, attention data and accumulated learning into a more connected system. It helps marketers create digital advertising designed around human attention, understand what people noticed and apply that intelligence to improve what happens next.

What is our advertising actually earning?

At the centre of this next chapter is STUDIO.

STUDIO is a revitalised creative canvas within the Naritive Attention Intelligence Platform that gives brands, agencies and creative teams greater control over building, refining, previewing and approving interactive digital advertising. It makes the creative process faster, clearer and more collaborative, without taking control away from the humans doing the thinking.

“We have spent years measuring what people do with digital advertising. Now we are using that intelligence to reshape how advertising gets made in the first place,” says Nick van Zyl-Smith, CEO of Naritive. “The industry does not need another dashboard filled with delivery metrics. It needs a practical way to connect media investment with human attention, memory and commercial value. That is what the evolution of the Naritive platform is designed to do.”

For Naritive’s clients, this means more ownership of the creative process, allowing marketers to build, test and experience interactive advertising before committing to a media budget. By designing for human attention from the outset, brands can create more effective campaigns and scale them across markets without sacrificing quality, consistency or control.

Over the coming months, the platform will extend this intelligence across three additional connected capabilities:

  • Create is a capability that will translate a structured client conversation into a production-ready Naritive ad unit through a guided AI briefing system, with built-in guardrails for brand safety and creative effectiveness.
  • Analyse turns campaign performance into campaign intelligence. A benchmarked dashboard tracking the Naritive APM score, alongside conversational AI insights, automated reporting and on-demand bespoke reports, lets marketers interrogate every campaign, not just receive it.
  • Activate is Naritive’s own DSP, designed with a proprietary bidding algorithm capable of optimising your media toward genuine human attention.

Each capability will build on the one before it, connecting attention-led creation with campaign intelligence and, ultimately, media activation.

An impression is not attention

Independent eye-tracking research from Lumen Research suggests that approximately 70% of viewable digital advertising is not consciously noticed. This creates an uncomfortable gap between what marketers buy and what audiences experience. An impression may confirm delivery, but it does not establish whether the advertising entered memory, influenced consideration or inspired action. Naritive is building its Attention Intelligence platform around this missing layer.

“Attention creates the conditions in which advertising has an opportunity to work,” says van Zyl-Smith.  “Instead of treating attention as another number to add to a campaign report, the improved platform helps marketers use attention intelligence throughout the advertising process.”

Attentionomics makes attention commercially useful

The Naritive platform is underpinned by Attentionomics, its proprietary approach to understanding what attention is worth to a brand and how marketers can use it to make better decisions.

Attentionomics brings together two sides of advertising effectiveness. The science examines how advertising earns attention, enters memory and influences choice. The economics interrogates whether the money invested in media and creative is producing meaningful value. Together, they connect what happens in the human mind with what marketers are expected to deliver commercially.

“Marketers are being asked to account for every rand, yet most campaign reporting still stops at what was delivered,” adds van Zyl-Smith. “Attentionomics goes further. It helps marketers understand whether their advertising earned the right kind of attention, what that attention contributed to memory and action, and how those insights can improve the next creative, media and investment decision. That is how attention becomes commercially useful.”

Africa should build the technology it uses

Naritive is not importing attention technology into Africa; it is building it here and taking it to the world. This keeps more of the intellectual property, technical capability, skills, employment and economic value created by the technology on the continent rather than sending that value to global technology providers.

Naritive’s experience of mobile-first behaviour, cultural diversity, fragmented media consumption and intense competition for attention also gives it a perspective that global competitors cannot easily replicate.

“Africa should not be satisfied with being a customer of technology built somewhere else,” says van Zyl-Smith. “We have the talent, insight and technical capability to build world-class advertising technology here, solve global problems and export African intelligence to the world.”

The evolution of the Naritive Attention Intelligence Platform signals a bigger ambition for the company. It intends to help establish attention as a practical discipline for making better marketing decisions rather than allowing it to become another fashionable measurement term.

“We’ve proven that interactive advertising can earn attention and inspire action,” concludes van Zyl-Smith. “Now we are building the connected intelligence system that helps marketers understand why it worked, what it was worth and how to do it better next time.
