Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela together with MMC for Roads and Transport in Tshwane Cllr Tlangi Mogale, on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, launched the 11th Road (D620) rehabilitation project in Winterveldt, City of Tshwane. This marked another milestone in the provincial government’s efforts to improve road conditions, enhance safety and promote mobility.

The 8.4km rehabilitation project is part of the Gauteng Provincial Government’s ongoing investment in maintaining and upgrading critical road infrastructure to improve road user mobility, connectivity, enhance driving experience and support economic activity.

Speaking at the launch, MEC Diale-Tlabela noted that “the rehabilitation of this route demonstrates our commitment to improving the quality of provincial roads and ensuring that communities in areas such as Winterveldt are not left behind.

Well-maintained roads are essential for connecting residents to economic opportunities, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services. Through these investments, we are working to build a safer and more accessible transport network for all.”

The scope of work includes the demolition of concrete sections, ripping and compaction of the base layer, milling and replacement of the road surface with asphalt layers as well as the installation of road markings and signage.Additional works include clearing concrete and earth drains, blading and repairing road shoulders to improve drainage and the overall condition of the road.

The MEC added that “our focus goes beyond rehabilitating the road surface. We are also addressing drainage and road shoulder conditions to improve the durability of the infrastructure and enhance motorists’ experience and other road users. We remain committed to accelerating road maintenance and rehabilitation as part of our broader service delivery programme”.

“Our maintenance and rehabilitation programme is premised on creating a road and transport system that connects communities, drives economic participation, and enhances safety for every road user”.

Major road rehabilitation projects support the Growing Gauteng Together Through Smart Mobility (GGT2030) strategic objective, which prioritises the provision of an efficient, reliable and safe transport network that responds to the mobility needs of business and communities.
