Celebrating its third edition in 2025, South Africa’s most social 5km run is set to once again combine electrifying racing with unforgettable fun when the Boxer Super Run returns to Durban on Sunday, 12 October.
After the energy and colour of the OPEN and SUPER SOCIAL WAVES, the spotlight will shift to South Africa’s finest athletes as they battle it out for the prestigious titles of King and Queen of the Boxer Super Run. With record-breaking performances already part of the event’s legacy, this year promises even more action – making it an occasion not to be missed.
“For the past two years, the Boxer Super Run Durban has delivered everything we hoped for,” says Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports. “At the inaugural event in 2023, Boxer Athletics Club stars Precious Mashele
and Glenrose Xaba made history by clocking 13:44 and 16:03 respectively, becoming the fastest South Africans over 5km on home soil at that time. In 2024, Mashele raised the bar even further, shaving five seconds off his own time to finish in 13:39.”
“This year, all eyes will be on whether those records can fall again. With an impressive R147 200 prize purse adding extra incentive, we’re optimistic about seeing more South African 5km records rewritten in Durban,” continues Meyer. “But it’s not only the elite race that will deliver fireworks. The ‘Open Wave’ is packed with competitive runners chasing new personal bests – and with prize money up for grabs for the Top 3 male and female finishers across all age categories (Junior, Open, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+), there’s every reason to push hard.”

PRIZE PURSE: The Boxer Super Run Durban boasts an impressive R147 200 prize purse in 2025. This prize purse will be shared across both the Elite Race and the Open Wave. In the Elite Race, the top eight men and women will earn prize money, with the winners each claiming a well-deserved R20 000. In the Open Wave, the top three men and
women in the Junior, Open, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+ categories will also be recognised and rewarded for their performances.
