EZEKIEL PHALANA
Fight week officially got underway in spectacular fashion as Aquila Boxing Promotions (ABP) launched Knockout Chaos 2 with a vibrant and well-attended press conference at the newly opened RPM Performance Gym in Johannesburg.
With Saturday night’s event already sold out, the launch attracted a packed audience of media, sponsors, boxing fans and athletes, reflecting the growing excitement surrounding one of South Africa’s premier professional boxing events. Cameras lined the venue as journalists and supporters gathered to hear from the fighters ahead of what promises to be an unforgettable night of action.
Hosted at the state-of-the-art RPM Performance Gym, founded by South African heavyweight Kevin Lerena, the event also celebrated the opening of a facility dedicated to nurturing the next generation of boxing talent. More than a high-performance training centre, the gym represents Lerena’s long-term commitment to the development and growth of boxing in South Africa by providing a world-class environment for elite athletes and aspiring professionals alike.
The highlight of the press conference came as the fighters shared their thoughts on their preparations before engaging in the traditional face-offs. Respect quickly gave way to determination as each boxer locked eyes with their opponent, sending a clear message that the talking is over and the focus has shifted firmly to the battles that await inside the ring.
Adding to the excitement is the return of the iconic Knockout Clock—the symbolic three-minute countdown that reminds both fighters and fans that every second inside the ring can change the outcome of a contest. It perfectly captures the intensity and unpredictability that have become synonymous with the Knockout Chaos series.
Knockout Chaos 2 has attracted strong commercial support, led by World Sports Betting in association with Tigris X Discovery, alongside SuperSport, Team Lerena, South Side Hard Soda, Skynet Worldwide Express, Meat World, Herschop Pienaar Attorneys, Nasty ENRG and Little Tuscany Boutique Hotel. Their continued investment reflects growing confidence in the future of professional boxing in South Africa and the increasing stature of Aquila Boxing Promotions.
Beyond delivering an exciting fight card, Aquila Boxing Promotions continues to raise the standard of professional boxing by creating premium experiences throughout fight week. From the official launch and Friday’s weigh-in at The Galleria Events Venue to Saturday’s televised showcase, every aspect of the event has been carefully designed to celebrate the sport while creating opportunities for athletes, partners and supporters.
With the official launch now complete, all eyes turn to Friday’s final weigh-in before the sold-out Knockout Chaos 2 takes centre stage on Saturday night.
If the energy displayed at Tuesday’s press conference is any indication, boxing fans are in for a thrilling evening where every punch carries significance, every round matters and South African boxing once again takes its place in the spotlight.
