Reach For A Dream brings hope, laughter and joy to children facing life-threatening illnesses ahead of national Slipper Day campaign
South Africa – 29 May 2026 – Reach For A Dream Foundation’s much-loved annual fundraising initiative, Slipper Day, is once again bringing smiles, laughter and unforgettable memories to children battling life-threatening illnesses across the country.
In celebration of this year’s campaign, the foundation is hosting special Slipper Day parties in hospitals nationwide, where more than 750 young dreamers are taking part in exciting activities, games, entertainment and moments of pure joy. The celebrations are taking place in the week leading up to Slipper Day on 29 May in hospitals across Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Bloemfontein, East London and Gqeberha.

The initiative forms part of Reach For A Dream’s mission to raise R15 million through Slipper Day to continue fulfilling dreams for children facing some of life’s toughest battles.
“Through the funds raised from Slipper Day, we are able to bring joy to children with life-threatening illnesses by making their dreams come true,” says Boitumelo Kumalo, Reach For A Dream’s Johannesburg Team Leader. “Being able to have them together for our Slipper Day party allows us to share hope and celebrate their strength in a space where they can simply be children again.”

The hospital celebrations are designed to provide emotional support and relief to children undergoing treatment, while also creating meaningful experiences for their families and caregivers. Reach For A Dream’s beloved Laughter Heroes add an extra touch of magic to the events, transforming hospital spaces into vibrant celebrations filled with music, games and happiness.
Healthcare professionals continue to witness the positive impact these experiences have on young patients.
“We see children become the liveliest people when they’re at the party,” says Dr Thandeka Ngcana, Paediatric Oncologist at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital. “The work Reach For A Dream does makes my job easier because they respond to treatment positively after spending time with their peers.”
South Africans are encouraged to show their support by purchasing a R20 Slipper Day sticker from participating retailers nationwide, including Wimpy, Dis-Chem Pharmacies, Baby City, Crocs, The Crazy Store, Toys R Us, Babies R Us and Krispy Kreme stores.
By wearing slippers in support of the campaign, individuals, schools and businesses can help bring hope, courage and joy to children who need it most.
