Marumo Gallants delivered a commanding performance to book their place in the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout with a resounding 4–0 victory over Stellenbosch FC at Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Playing under wet and testing conditions, Gallants showed composure, energy, and tactical discipline to overcome a spirited Stellenbosch side that had entered the match as firm favourites.

Gallants Take Control Early

The game began with Stellenbosch dictating possession, but Gallants gradually found their rhythm and broke the deadlock in the 28th minute through Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo, who coolly slotted home after a clever team build-up. The midfield maestro doubled his tally midway through the second half, finishing off a well-orchestrated counter-attack in the 52nd minute.

Monde Mpambaniso extended the lead with a composed strike in the 79th minute, before veteran Edgar Manaka sealed the emphatic win with a powerful header in the 86th minute to send the Gallants supporters into raptures.

Marumo Gallants’ head coach Alexandre Lafitte expressed delight with his side’s performance and praised the players for their determination and tactical discipline.

“I am very happy with the way the boys executed the plan,” he said. “We knew Stellenbosch are a strong side, but we worked hard on our transitions and finishing. This result shows what this team is capable of when we stay focused.”

Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker was gracious in defeat, acknowledging Gallants’ superiority on the day but promising a strong response from his side.

“We weren’t clinical enough, and Gallants punished us for every mistake,” Barker said. “We’ve grown as a club, and results like these remind us that we have to keep improving. We’ll bounce back stronger.”

A Statement Victory

The win marks one of Gallants’ most impressive performances of the season and sends a strong message to the remaining semi-finalists. The Bloemfontein-based side will now turn their attention to the next round of the competition, brimming with confidence and belief.

For Stellenbosch FC, the focus shifts back to the league as they aim to regroup and maintain their momentum in domestic competition.
